Cascading contrast

One 18 carat white gold pendant, set with one round brilliant cut diamond and small black diamonds. The pendant is strung on a double strand of roughly cut black diamonds.

This striking black and white neckpiece was a stunning technical puzzle, commissioned by a brilliantly minded engineering professor and his wife from the University of Cape Town. The shape was inspired by two scimitar swords, and the key words here were movement, balance, proportion and contrast. Contrast firstly between black and white colour and secondly, between the rough and smooth cut of the diamonds.
